Description

The Nebraska Biocontainment Unit (NBU) activated for the first time in its history in early September 2014. The unit received and successfully treated its first patient, Rick Sacra, MD. Dr. Sacra contracted Ebola while treating patients in Liberia. He was discharged from the NBU later that month. After his recovery, Dr. Sacra returned to ELWA Hospital in Liberia and to this day continues to be involved in humanitarian health care in West Africa.
